Data Disclaimer

All pricing, volume, and market data published on the Kavalactone Ledger platform is indicative only. Data is derived from a combination of field research, direct interviews with exporters and farmers, publicly available government trade statistics, and importer surveys.

Important: Figures published on this platform do not represent guaranteed transactional prices, nor do they constitute an offer or quotation for the purchase or sale of kava. Actual transaction prices will vary based on grade specifications, contract terms, relationships, season, and quantity. Users must independently verify all pricing information before entering into any commercial agreement.

Data is updated on a monthly basis and may not reflect market conditions at the precise time of viewing. The “MoM Change” figures are percentage comparisons of our own monthly indicative estimates and should not be treated as definitive market movements.

Kavalactone Ledger makes reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy of data presented, but cannot guarantee accuracy, completeness, or currency of any figure published. The kava market is characterised by significant price variability between buyers and sellers, regions, and grades, which means no single index can fully represent market conditions.

Where data is noted as “preliminary” or “estimated,” it reflects early-stage collection and has a higher margin of error. Solomon Islands data in particular is in an early collection phase and should be treated as directional only.

Data Collection Methodology

Kavalactone Ledger operates the Pacific’s first publicly accessible, independent kava price index. Our data collection follows a structured field research process across the key kava-producing nations of the Pacific.

1
Direct Field Research
Our team conducts periodic in-person visits to key producing regions across Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, and Samoa. During these visits we interview exporters, growers, cooperative managers, and market operators to collect current pricing and supply information.
2
In-Country Field Contacts
We maintain a network of trusted in-country contacts in each producing nation who provide periodic pricing updates between research visits. These contacts operate in good faith but their reports represent a sample of market activity, not the complete market.
3
Government Trade Statistics
Where available, we cross-reference data against publicly available trade statistics from the Tongan Ministry of Agriculture, Vanuatu Bureau of Statistics, Fiji Bureau of Statistics, and Samoa’s Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. These are retrospective figures used for validation, not real-time pricing.
4
Importer Surveys
We periodically survey kava importers in key destination markets (United States, Australia, European Union, New Zealand) to obtain landed cost and wholesale pricing data, which informs our indicative retail and landed price estimates.
5
Editorial Judgement & Averaging
Individual data points are aggregated and averaged to produce the indicative price figures published on the dashboard. Where data points diverge significantly, we apply editorial judgement and note the uncertainty. We do not guarantee that any particular transaction will occur at or near our published estimates.
Data Period: The current dashboard reflects indicative pricing as of January 2026. Historical data shown from 2018 onwards represents retrospective estimates compiled from the same methodology applied to prior-period field data. The dashboard is updated annually; the “Data Period” indicator in the top stats bar reflects the most recent update period.

Kavalactone Percentage Data

Kavalactone percentage figures shown in the heatmap section represent average ranges derived from publicly available laboratory test results, academic research, and where available, supplier-provided certificate of analysis data. These ranges are indicative of typical results for each variety and region and are not a guarantee of the kavalactone content of any specific batch or shipment.
